The Isle of Wight is always a popular destination, our holiday is based in Ryde. With its long stretches of sandy beach, and thriving independent shopping scene, Ryde is a quirky mix of traditional seaside fun, Victorian architecture and unexpected hidden gems! This break combines some of the highlights of the island including Osborne House.
Sunday: We make our way to Portsmouth for the short ferry crossing to Fishbourne. On arrival at the hotel, enjoy a welcome drink whilst luggage is taken to your rooms.
Monday: This morning we have free time to explore the pretty town of Ryde, before taking a journey on the award-winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Your ticket also includes admission to Havenstreet Station and the Train Story Discovery Centre. We might be lucky enough to catch one of the free Haven Falconry flying displays before relaxing and enjoying a leisurely trip with unique views of some of the island’s unspoilt countryside.
Tuesday: All aboard the coach for a circular tour of the island. The island boasts 60 miles of spectacular coastline and stunning scenery. There will be a visit to the famous Needles and Trinity Lighthouse – the Isle of Wight’s most famous landmark. The tour will also include a visit to the historic port town of Yarmouth which is home to the oldest architecture on the island.
Wednesday: This morning we pause in the picture postcard village of Godshill, with its quaint thatched cottages and traditional local pubs. We continue to Ventnor Botanic Garden with its impressive collection of over 30,000 rare and sub-tropical plants and trees, before spending time at leisure in the lovely seaside resort of Shanklin.
Thursday: Today gives you the opportunity to explore Ryde at your leisure or take the nearby public transport to one of the other resorts or small towns around the island.
Friday: After breakfast we depart the hotel and make our way back home to East Anglia.
The Royal Esplanade Hotel is located close to the promenade in the heart of the lively resort of Ryde. The hotel has regular entertainment, a restaurant overlooking the promenade and a separate bar and lounge. There is a lift but there are steps into the hotel and to access some rooms. All bedrooms have a TV, hairdryer, toiletries, and tea/coffee making facilities.
