We travel across England to where Shropshire meets Wales, where we enjoy a relaxing canal cruise, a steam train ride through the Dee Valley’s stunning scenery and take a boat trip along the River Severn on this leisurely holiday.

Monday: From local departure points, we travel to Shropshire for our four-night break near the lovely medieval market town of Shrewsbury.

Tuesday: We start our holiday with a leisurely cruise in Shrewsbury along the famous and very picturesque River Severn, before exploring this lovely town which was the birthplace of Charles Darwin. Shrewsbury is home to an abbey, many black & white half-timbered Tudor buildings, and an imposing castle.

Wednesday: After breakfast we visit the wonderful Hodnet Hall Gardens, renowned as one of the finest gardens in the country, it has 60 acres of brilliantly coloured flowers, magnificent trees and formal gardens. See the traditional walled Kitchen Garden, where neat rows of fruit and vegetables and local rarities such as melons and Japanese shiso grow side by side or take a woodland walk amongst flowering shrubs and admire a chain of ornamental pools.

Thursday: Our excursion today takes us across the border into Wales, where we explore the picturesque town of Llangollen with the River Dee running through its heart. Experience the peace and tranquility of a canal boat trip along the Llangollen Canal, before taking a nostalgic trip back in time on the Llangollen Railway. There will be free time to enjoy Llangollen’s independent shops before heading back to England and our hotel,

Friday: We leave our hotel after breakfast, heading into the Cotswolds where we spend some time before retracing our steps back to East Anglia.

Mercure Shrewsbury Albrighton Hall Hotel & Spa is a beautiful 18th century four star hotel set in 15 acres of secluded gardens including a spectacular ornamental lake make this an ideal location for a relaxing break. Hotel guests may make use of the leisure facilities and spa, which include an indoor heated swimming pool, hot tub, and steam/sauna experiences. All bedrooms have WiFi, 24-hour room service, hair dryers, ironing facilities, TVs, and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel also has a lift.
